Franz Doppler

Polish-Hungarian composer and flutist Franz Doppler (1821-1883). Together with his brother Karl he was among the most significant flute virtuosi of the 19th century. They both played at the German Theatre in Pest, and later in the orchestra of the Hungarian National Theatre. They were involved with the foundation of the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra and, as composers, they supported the Hungarian national movement.
