Carl Nielsen is the greatest name in Danish music. Here you will get some of his greatest works, his three Concertos for Violin, Clarinet and Flute, as well as his Wind Quintet.
The Violin Concerto is one of the 20th century's finest concertos for this instrument. Here with Korean violinist Dong-Suk Kang as soloist, hailed for his outstanding artistry, musicianship and virtuosity. The Swedish Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is directed by Korean conductor Myong-Whun Chung. (Gramophone: outstanding).
The Clarinet Concerto is a central repertoire work for this instrument. Swedish world-famous clarinetist Martin Fröst performs the work together with the Finnish Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä, now Music Director of the Minnesota Orchestra. (Hailed by the reviewers: Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine, International Record Review and Music Web International, all saying 'outstanding').
The Flute Concerto is also rated as one of the finest for the instrument during the 20th Century. French flutist Patrick Gallois performs together with the Gothenburg Symphony orchestra and Chung. (Gramophone: outstanding).
You will also get a chamber work, another of Nielsen's masterpieces, his Wind Quintet. One of his major works, a staple of the wind quintet repertoire. Here performed by the German Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet.
