Nielsen's Wind Quintet, Op. 43, inspired by Mozart and completed in 1922, showcases the distinct character of each instrument, especially in the Theme and Variations. Farkas' Antique Hungarian Dances, composed in 1959, are based on 18th-century Hungarian folk dances. Ibert's Three Short Pieces, derived from his 1930 theatre music, blend lively rhythms with poetic expression. Arnold's Three Shanties, composed in 1952, adapt traditional sailor songs into spirited wind quintet arrangements.
