Patrick van Goethem

The Belgian counter-tenor Patrick van Goethem (born 1969) studied under Paul Esswood, Julia Hamari and Andreas Scholl. He specializes in early music, with a repertoire that includes vocal works by Heinichen, Monteverdi, Purcell and Zelenka, Bach’s St. John and St. Matthew’s Passions, cantatas and B minor Mass, Handel’s Messiah and oratorios, and Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater. His concert schedule has taken him to Europe, North America and Japan. He has appeared with the Netherlands Bach Society (Gustav Leonhardt), Musica Antiqua Köln (Reinhardt Goebel), Bach Collegium Stuttgart (Helmuth Rilling) and Concerto Köln (Pierre Cao). He is also a regular visitor to major festivals. In 2005 Patrick van Goethem made his début in the USA with the American Bach Soloists under Jeffrey Thomas, singing Bach’s Magnificat and Easter Oratorio.
