Mattias Wager

Mattias Wager studied the organ and church music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and was awarded a medal for his début recital in 1992. He has also studied under Johannes Geffert (Bonn) and Naji Hakim (Paris). He has won first prize in three international competitions: the 1995 Organ Interpretation Competition in St. Albans, England, and the improvisation competitions in 1991 in Strängnäs, Sweden, and 1995 in Paris (Grand Prix d’improvisation ‘Pierre Cochereau’). Wager has performed at festivals and prestigious venues throughout Europe and in Brazil. He also teaches at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Since 2002 he has been organist at Hedvig Eleonora Church in Stockholm, combining this with concert tours and masterclasses in Sweden and abroad. Collaborating extensively with other artists and ensembles, Mattias Wager has made several organ transcriptions of orchestral scores such as the Fauré Requiem heard in this recording, and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
