Henrik Wiese

The flautist Henrik Wiese was born in Vienna in 1971 and grew up in Hamburg. After teaching himself to play the flute at the age of ten, he took lessons from Ingrid Koch in Hamburg. Later he studied under Paul Meisen in Munich where, after five university terms, he was appointed principal flautist at the Bavarian State Opera. Henrik Wiese has won prizes at the German Music Competition in 1995 and the Elise Meyer Competition in 1996 as well as the international competitions in Kobe in 1997, Markneukirchen in 1998, Odense (the Carl Nielsen Competition) in 1998 and Munich (ARD) in 2000. As chamber musician, soloist and teacher he has travelled through the Far East (Japan, Taiwan and India) and Europe. His special interest lies in rediscovering unknown works for the flute.
