Introduction et rondo capriccioso in A minor, Op.28, for violin and orchestra (1863)

Like so many other compositions of simular duration, this piece enjoys tremendous popularity. Like the first violin concerto it was dedicated to Pablo de Sarasate. It possesses a striking freshness: the rather melancholy introduction is followed by a rondo which offers extremely lively proof that even music in the minor key can express a lively 'joie de vivre'.
