Kees Bakels



Kees Bakels (b. 1945) was appointed as the founding music director of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in 1997 and was the central artistic force behind the creation of the orchestra. Bakels was born in Amsterdam and began his musical career as a violinist. From the beginning of his career, Maestro Bakels has concentrated as much on opera as on symphonic repertoire.
