Music for a royal excursion. On 17 July 1717, King George I of England ‘went up by Water to Chelsea, and was entertain’d with an excellent Consort of Musick . . . composed specially by the famous Handel’. The fifty musicians cost the . . . princely sum of £150 – but their hunting horns, trumpets, flutes and the rest so delighted the company that the concert was repeated three times in the course of the evening. No doubt the matchless virtuosos of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin will repeat that feat in your living room!

Le 17 juillet 1717, le roi George Ier d’Angleterre “remonta jusqu’à Chelsea par le fleuve et fut régalé d’un excellent concert de musique… composée spécialement par le célèbre Haendel”. La cinquantaine de musiciens coûta la somme… princière de 150 £ – mais leurs cors de chasse, trompettes et autres flûtes enchantèrent tellement que le concert fut donné trois fois dans la soirée. Les virtuoses de l’Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin réitèrent l’exploit… pour notre plus grand plaisir !
Musik für eine königliche Flusspartie. Am 17. Juli 1717 fuhr König George I. „flussaufwärts nach Chelsea, und zu seiner Unterhaltung spielte ein vortreffliches Instrumentalensemble … für diesen Zweck komponiert von dem berühmten Händel.“ Die 50 Musiker kosteten die fürstliche Summe von 150 £ – aber ihre Waldhörner, Trompeten, Flöten und andere Instrumente begeisterten die Gesellschaft so sehr, dass das Konzert im Laufe des Abends gleich drei Mal wiederholt werden musste. Kein Zweifel, dass die Virtuosen der Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin dieses Kunststück wiederholen werden!
