Chopin-Joaquín Achúcarro

The Preludes are not little jewels arranged side by side; they form a whole, a gigantic work. Each prelude, however brief it may be, presents a particular mood and constitutes a world in itself. We are dealing here with twenty-four 'psychological studies', twenty-four states of mind: humanity, joy, rage, heroism, defeat, triumph, love, nostalgia, sadness, hope, resignation, and so on – all of them feelings with which Chopin was perfectly familiar. Joaquín Achúcarro waited a long time before recording the Preludes because he wanted to have the impression that he had totally assimilated them, to the extent that they became, so to speak, a part of his subconscious; almost like establishing a friendship with a living being. From that point on, he was ready to go into the recording studio.

Les Préludes ne sont pas de petits joyaux disposés les uns à côtés des autres ; ils forment un tout, une œuvre gigantesque. Chaque prélude, si bref soit-il, présente une humeur particulière et constitue un univers en soi. On a affaire à vingt-quatre « études psychologiques », vingt-quatre états d'esprit : humanité, joie, rage, héroïsme, défaite, triomphe, amour, nostalgie, tristesse, espoir, résignation, etc. – autant de sentiments que Chopin connaissait parfaitement. Joaquín Achúcarro aura attendu longtemps avant d'enregistrer les Préludes car il voulait avoir la sensation de les avoir totalement assimilés – au point d'en faire pour ainsi dire une part de son subconscient – ; un peu comme s'il s'était agi de nouer une relation d'amitié avec un être vivant. A partir de là, il était prêt à prendre le chemin du studio d'enregistrement.

Die Préludes sind keine kleinen, aneinandergereihten Schmuckstücke, vielmehr ein Ganzes, ein gigantisches Werk. Jedem Prélude, so kurz es auch sein mag, wohnt eine besondere Stimmung, eine ganz eigene Welt inne. Es sind 24 „psychologische Studien", 24 geistige Verfassungen: Menschlichkeit, Freude, Wut, Heldentum, Niederlage, Triumph, Liebe, Nostalgie, Traurigkeit, Hoffnung, Resignation usw. – all diese Gefühle kannte Chopin bestens. Joaquín Achúcarro wartete lange bis zur Aufnahme der Préludes, da er das Gefühl haben wollte, sie vollends verinnerlicht zu haben – so sehr, dass sie geradezu ein Teil seines Unterbewusstseins geworden sind – fast als ginge es darum, eine Freundschaft mit einem Lebewesen aufzubauen. So war er schließlich bereit, ins Studio zu gehen.
