IX. Adagio. Mesto - Allegro maestoso - Più mosso. Agitato -Tempo I (B. Bartók in memoriam)

A suite of piano studies composed in Budapest between 1951 and 1953 and, for the time of its composition, remarkably experimental. The work is built on a very original idea, that of using one singel note in the first movement, an A towards the end supported with a D. In the second movement there are three notes, in the third just four and so on until all the notes appear in the eleventh and final movement.
