Lucas Harris

Lucas Harris received his training in Europe, first at the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano as one of the first scholars of the Marco Fodella Foundation, then at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen. Since returning to North America in 1998, he has quickly become one of the foremost continuo lutenists in the USA and Canada, receiving engagements with dozens of prominent baroque ensembles, among them The Harp Consort, Apollo’s Fire, the New York Collegium, Tafelmusik, Trinity Consort, Seattle Baroque, the Smithsonian Chamber Players and Les Voix Humaines. He also created and directed some twenty themed concert programmes with his own New York-based group, Common Ground. His passion for baroque opera has animated the continuo accompaniment of produc-tions by the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Juilliard Opera Center, the Boston, Utrecht and Connecticut Early Music Festivals, Monadnock Music, the Toronto Consort and Opera Atelier. He is now on the faculty of Oberlin Conservatory’s Baroque Performance Institute, and has also taught for the New York Continuo Collective and the Amherst Early Music Festival/Lute Society of America Summer Seminar. He is now based in Toronto, Ontario.
