Anders Nilsson



Swedish composer Anders Nilsson (b. 1954). Played in a band in the 70's. Worked as a musician and composer/arranger at different theatre companies in 70's. Studied composition at the Royal Music College in Stockholm 1979-83 for prof. Gunnar Bucht, Arne Mellnäs, Brian Ferneyhough and others. From 1983 working fulltime as composer. During 1988-93 also as a teacher in orchestration at the Royal Music College. Since 1993 again working full time as composer. Made the début as a composer with the first of the ¨Trois pièces pour grand orchestre¨ in Copenhagen during the UNM-festival 1981. Has received commissions for soloists, ensembles and orchestras both in Sweden and abroad. The music has received prizes in competitions and also been awarded otherwise, for instance with the grand Christ Johnson-award in 2000 for ¨Concerto grosso I¨. During the last years the creative output has also been set in the field of operas, both as a composer and author to libretto, as in the first opera ¨Klassresan¨, premièred at the inauguration of the theatre of the Opera College in Stockholm in 2003. The second opera ¨Zarah¨ (libretto by Claes Fellbom) was premiered at the Folkoperan in Stockholm in September 2007, about the Swedish artist Zarah Leander who made a career as artist and film star during the Nazi-regime in Germany in 40's.
