Randall Thompson

American composer Randall Thompson (1899-1984) was one of the keenest lance-bearers for choral music in the USA. Incensed by people in the music world who did not want to recognize an honoured position for choral music, he wrote a fiercely polemical tract entitled 'The Tyranny of Doctrine of Absolute Music'.
