Eric Zeisl

Austrian/American composer Eric Zeisl (1905-1959).
Born in Vienna, Zeisl belongs to the generation of musicians whose promising careers were interrupted by the 'Anschluss', Nazi-Germany's annexation of Austria in March 1938. As a Jew, Zeisl was compelled to leave the city of his birth in some haste; he passed through Paris and went on to New York before eventually arriving in Hollywood. He found work for the film studios and composed the music for some twenty films (including 'The Postman Always Rings Twice' in 1946) before returning to absolute music and to teaching.
