This album presents Bohuslav Martinů’s first two symphonies, composed in exile in the United States during World War II. Symphony No. 1 (1942) is an epic, emotionally charged work with echoes of tragedy and triumph, while Symphony No. 2 (1943) is more pastoral and lyrical, with clear Czech influences and rhythmic vibrancy. Both are brought to life by Neeme Järvi and the Bamberger Symphoniker.
