The concerto, dedicated to Rostropovich, is in a single movement, but there are clear divisions into different sections; an introduction, four episodes, a cantilena and a finale. Overall, the work is characterized by lively, at times brutal dialogues between soloist and orchestra, from which the soloist ultimately emerges victorious. Recommended by BBC Music Magazine, Fono Forum and Klassik heute.
