British composer Sir Malcolm Arnold (1921-2006).
Alongside Britten, Tippet and several others, Arnold is one of the most frequently played British composers of the 20th century. In 1948 he was awarded the Mendelsson Scholarship after which he decided to devote himself entirely to composition. Awarded Oscar for the music in the film 'The Bridge on the River Kwai'.
