Bellini, Vincenzo
Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835), whose parents were musicians from Naples, was one of the most famous opera composers (Norma, La Sonnambula) of his time and played a decisive part in the development of vocal music. He was responsible for the operatic aesthetic credo 'opera, through singing, must make one weep, shudder, die'. Bellini died young, and in his early years also wrote instrumental music.
