Bellison, Simeon
Russian clarinetist and composer Simeon Bellison (1883-1953). Already during his time in Moscow Bellison devoted himself to music of the New Jewish School. He was one of the protagonists of the Moscow chapter of the Society for Jewish Folk Music and frequently performed in the society's concerts. In 1919 he received an offer to become solo clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held between 1920 and 1948. He was also a highly acclaimed teacher. His pupuls included Benny Goodman, among others.
