Engel, Joel
Ukrainian composer Joel Engel (1868-1927), one of the most prominent Russian musical writers, an important composer of the New Jewish School. The apppearance of the Society for Jewish Folk Music in 1908 encouraged him to continue his work on Jewish folk songs. Eventually he settled in Israel.
