Flynn, George

American composer George Flynn (b. 1937) grew up in the American West, discovered Charles Ives' Concord Sonata in his teens, and later studied and taught at Colombia University, New York City, while performing new music in a variety of New York venues. He also taught at New York's Lehmann College before coming to DePaul University's School of Music in Chicago where, from 1977 to 2001, he headed the Department of Composition. As a pianist he has promoted new music for many yours in North America and Europe. Flynn is a member of ASCAP.
