Piccinini, Allessandro
Italian composer Allessandro Piccinini (1566-1638) claimed to have invented the arciliuto and also to have significantly improved the chitarrone. He was one of the highest paid musicians of Duke Alfonso II d'Este in Ferrara. His lute music is still mostly composed in the counterpoint system, whereas his compositions for the chitarrone display some more modern characteristics.
