John Pickard (b.1963) is one of Britain's most significant composers, whose work is marked by emotional intensity and formal rigour. The Piano Concerto (1999–2000), with Fredrik Ullén as soloist, is cast in three movements — Toccata, Passacaglia and Fuga — each title hinting at its musical architecture. Sea-Change (1988–89) and Tenebrae (2008–09) for orchestra complete a programme spanning two decades of the composer's development. All three works are performed by the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra under Martyn Brabbins, recorded in the presence of the composer.
