Composer and musician who is known to have held a position in the court of August the Strong and Anna Amalia, Princess of Prussia, a sister of Frederick the Great. On two occasions he was passed over in favour of sons of Bach - Carl Philip Emanuel and Wilhelm Friedemann. But he had a reputation as one of the best composers and keyboard players in Berlin.
