French composer Florent Schmitt (1870-1958).
A pupil of Massenet and Fauré and a friend of Satie, Debussy and Ravel, Schmitt became one of the most important personalitites in the Parisian music world in his roles as a composer, pianist, critic, and functionary. Rome Prize Winner in 1900. In 1938 appointed President of the Societé Nationale de Musique.
