Stojowski, Zygmunt
Polish composer Zygmunt Stojowski (1879-1946).
Composer and concert pianist. At the age of 18 he moved to Paris. Two years later at the Paris Conservatoire, he would win first prizes in piano performance, counterpoint and fugue. In 1905 he moved to the USA. Taught at the Juilliard School of Music and the Institute of Musical Art, and headed the piano department at the Von Ende School of Music until 1917. Later he opened his own 'Stojowski Studios' . His music is reminiscent of Wagner, Saint-Saëns and Franck but also has roots in Polish folk-music.
