Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon
Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621) was a master improvisor, called the 'Orpheus of Amsterdam'. Also an organ teacher, known in Germany as the 'Maker of organists'. Sweelinck represents the highest development of the Dutch keyboard school, representing one of the highest pinnacles attained in keyboard contrapuntal complexity and refinement before Johann Sebastian Bach.
