Aadland, Eivind
Equally assured in the classical and contemporary repertoire, Eivind Aadland (b. 1956) is one of Norway’s most respected conductors. Chief conductor and artistic director of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra while maintaining a regular relationship with many Scandinavian orchestras. He is also a frequent guest at the Norwegian National Opera, where he has conducted Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute. He has also appeared with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the English and Lausanne Chamber Orchestras and the Symphony Orchestras of Gothenburg, Iceland, the Finnish Radio and WDR Cologne.. A student of Jorma Panula, Eivind Aadland was encouraged by Mariss Jansons to pursue his conducting career. Previously a violinist, Eivind Aadland was leader of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (1981-1989) and music director of the European Union Chamber Orchestra from 1987 until 1997, which he directed in concerts at major concert halls and festivals throughout Europe.
