Järvi, Neeme
Estonian conductor Neeme Järvi (b. 1937). After 22 years as principal conductor of the Gothenburg Symphny Orchestra, The National Orchestra of Sweden, he is now its principal conductor emeritus. He has also been music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and is music director of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor of the Residentie Orkest, The Hague. He is one of the most recorded conductors on today's international scene and many of his recordings have been with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. In 1998 he was voted 'Estonian of the Century' from among twenty-five of his compatriots.
