Penny, Andrew
English conductor Andrew Penny started out by studying the clarinet at the Royal Northern College in Manchester. He studied conducting with Sir Charles Groves and worked as an assistant to Richard Hickox and Elgar Howarth. He is a winner of the prestigious Ricordi Prize. Further studies followed for Edward Downes and he has made a number of radio recordings in England and Holland. Major recording projects include a Malcolm Arnold symphony cycle. Musical director of the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra since 1982.
