Walter, Alfred
Austrian conductor Alfred Walter (1929-2005). Att age 22 he became conductor of the Graz Opera where he continued till 1965, while serving as assistant conductor at Bayreuth to Karl Böhm and Hans Knappertsbusch. He has worked as a guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera. In 1986 he was given the title of Professor by the Austrian government and in 1980 he was awarded the Golden Medal of the Gustav Mahler Society. Has recorded a wide range of composers, but has in recent years specialized in the Strauss Family.
