Sonata for 7 Cities: Live in Hong Kong
Sonata for 7 Cities is pianist Filippo Gorini's project of month-long residencies in seven cities around the world, combining recitals with concertos, teaching and free concerts in schools, hospitals, prisons, shelters and other places where classical music rarely reaches. This live album captures the recital he gave at Hong Kong's City Hall during his autumn 2025 residency, at the invitation of Premiere Performances Hong Kong. The programme opens with the premiere of Beat Furrer's Studie IV für Klaviersolo, a kaleidoscopic tour de force of clustered repeated notes and ever-mounting tension. Brahms's late Fantasien, Op. 116, follow, alternating stormy capriccios with fragile, autumnal intermezzos, before Schubert's Sonata in G major, D. 894 – a work Schumann regarded as perfect – unfolds its long arcs of warmth and introspection. Winner of the Premio Abbiati and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, Gorini has earned a Diapason d'Or and five-star reviews for his earlier Alpha recordings of late Beethoven and Bach.
