After three recital albums with Alpha Classics (ALPHA 296, 591 & 755), Italian pianist Filippo Gorini presents an ambitious, original and very important project for him: Sonata for 7 Cities is a pianistic and human odyssey through seven cities around the globe, cities that are very different from one another and not necessarily expected in the world of classical music: while Gorini travelled to Vienna for this first opus, the next two stages will be Cape Town and Hong Kong, to be released soon... Each time, he stays in the city for a month, giving free concerts in unusual venues such as hospitals, prisons and centres for political refugees, and meeting students... Another special feature of these programmes is that they present major works from the repertoire (in this case Schubert and Beethoven) alongside a contemporary work commissioned for the occasion. For this volume, Italian composer Stefano Gervasoni, born in 1962, composed a piano sonata: ‘Gervasoni chose to write a long narrative arc. The music is sincere and expressive,’ says Gorini.
