Catalog Number: ACD2055
Ann-Helena Schlüter brings Bach’s Goldberg Variations to the richly coloured 1697 Baroque organ of St Antonius, Worbis, whose 35 stops, mean-tone temperament and breathing wedge-bellows wind create rare tonal variety and appeal.

‘Aria with various changes’ in tonal diversity. With its 35 stops on three manuals, the Baroque organ of the pilgrimage church of St. Antonius in Worbis offers an extraordinarily diverse range of sounds, which Ann-Helena Schlüter is able to use convincingly in the Goldberg Variations. The instrument was originally built in 1697 by the Franciscan Adam Oehninger and, after extensive renovations at the beginning of the 20th century, was reconstructed in its original form a few years ago. The mean-tone temperament and the lively, breathing wind supply add to the special tonal appeal: the organ has no electric blower, as the six wedge bellows are operated by an electromechanical bellows lift, just as a calcant would do.
