Catalog Number: AP433D
A heartfelt tribute to two great Barcelona cellists. Valérie Aimard and Cédric Lorel pair the music of Gaspar Cassadó — his celebrated Suite, Sonata and concert pieces — with works by his teacher Pablo Casals, including the beloved El cant dels ocells.
Cassadó: Sonate, Suite - Casals: Cello Pieces
This album honours two legendary cellists from Barcelona, Gaspar Cassadó and his teacher Pablo Casals, in a year of shared anniversaries. Cellist Valérie Aimard and pianist Cédric Lorel present Cassadó's brilliant Suite for solo cello, his passionate Sonata in A minor and sparkling concert pieces such as Requiebros, alongside Casals's tender miniatures and his famous El cant dels ocells (The Song of the Birds). Granados's Intermezzo from Goyescas, arranged by Cassadó, completes a programme steeped in Catalan lyricism. It is an affectionate portrait of a rich musical lineage.
