Música Portuguesa para Trio de Cordas
Catalog Number: AWR2026026
Portuguese music for string trio, newly commissioned by the Trio António Capela from some of Portugal's most prestigious composers – a bold contribution to an underrepresented repertoire and a defining moment in the ensemble's artistic identity.
The Trio António Capela brings together Marta Eufrázio (violin), Rute Azevedo (viola) and Valter Mateus (cello). The ensemble finds in chamber music a space of musical sharing, built from the dialogue between three musicians and the ongoing search for a common sonority. The trio’s work revolves around the repertoire for this medium, spanning different periods, aesthetics and musical languages. Portuguese music holds a place of particular importance in its journey, alongside an interest in contemporary music and close collaboration with composers.
This album grew out of an awareness that the string trio remains underrepresented in Portuguese music. Rather than merely acknowledging this reality, the Trio António Capela set out to help change it by encouraging the creation of new works and seeking to raise the profile to this medium and its expressive possibilities. The composers from which the Trio commissioned this collection of works are some of the most prestigious figures in classical Portuguese music. The album is a contribution to Portuguese music for string trio, certainly, but also a testament to a particularly important moment in shaping the artistic identity of Trio António Capela.
