Øystein Baadsvik (b.1966) is one of the world's leading tuba soloists, and Ferry Tales marks the culmination of an eleven-year collaboration with pianist and arranger Erlend Skomsvoll (b.1969). The programme blends their own compositions — including the atmospheric Tango, the reflective Salme i g-moll and the dance-like Ordner seg — with imaginative arrangements of a Fantasy on Borodin's Prince Igor, Arlen's 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and a fantasy on a theme by Ketil Bjørnstad. The disc is both a celebration of the tuba as a lyrical and versatile instrument and a warm farewell to a long musical friendship that has been, in Baadsvik's words, 'filled with revelations, marvellous feedback from audiences and encounters with extraordinary individuals'.
