This second volume of Finnish Hymns presents seventeen of the best-loved chorales of the Finnish tradition in fresh orchestral guise. Each melody has been newly arranged by a distinguished Finnish composer – among them Olli Kortekangas, Ilkka and Jaakko Kuusisto, Kari Tikka, Kalevi Aho, Harri Ahmas and Osmo Vänskä himself – so that familiar tunes are heard in a wealth of new colours. Rooted in centuries of devotional song, the hymns range from the meditative to the radiant.
