Special Offer
Ernesto Lecuona (1895–1963) was the dominant figure in Cuban musical life for close to half a century, blending Cuban rhythms with Spanish colour in a way that captivated musicians including Maurice Ravel, who declared Lecuona's Malagueña 'more melodic and beautiful than my own Bolero'. This first volume in Thomas Tirino's complete survey opens with the Rapsodia Negra for piano and orchestra, performed with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Bartos. The Música Española then offers a colourful suite evoking Andalucía through pieces titled Córdoba, Alhambra, Malagueña, Gitanerías, Guadalquivir and others. The disc also includes Precios Características and various shorter pieces, several in world première recordings.
