Liszt - Organ Music

Liszt - Organ Music
Franz Liszt's forty-odd organ works reveal a composer who helped fundamentally renew the instrument's repertoire, moving from old polyphonic habits toward a bold, symphonic and virtuosic idiom. This disc gathers three of his towering organ masterpieces: the Fantasy and Fugue on the chorale 'Ad nos, ad salutarem undam' (1850), the Prelude and Fugue on BACH (1855/1870), and the Variations on 'Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen' (1863) — the last written in memory of his daughter Blandine and built on a theme Bach also used in his Mass in B minor. Swedish organist Hans Fagius performs on the Åkerman & Lund organ of Katarina Church, Stockholm, a French-inspired instrument whose flutes and reeds lend Liszt's orchestral writing its full symphonic stature.
