Lunds Studentsångare sjunger in Våren
Catalog Number: BIS162
A radiant bouquet of Swedish male-chorus spring songs, where folk-like simplicity, student tradition and finely shaded lyricism lead from May’s first light to the wide, wind-swept spaces of Peterson-Berger’s mountain journey.
Rooted in the living traditions of Lund’s historic student choir, this programme brings together the music that has long welcomed spring in Sweden: songs of thawing landscapes, birdsong and youthful camaraderie, shaped with the clarity and warmth that manskör singing does best. The repertoire moves easily between nature-romantic freshness and more reflective twilight moods—serenades, rain-songs and gentle inward turns—while keeping a distinctive Nordic profile, from folk-inflected arrangement to the poised craftsmanship of the Uppsala/Lund choral milieu. At the centre stands Wilhelm Peterson-Berger’s En Fjällfärd, conceived as a cyclic set of eight scenes from a mountain hike: bright departure, sunlit heights, storm and rain, homely humour in the shelter of a hut, and an epilogue where memory turns the whole journey into song again. Heard as a continuous arc, it becomes not just landscape painting, but a portrait of fellowship—music that breathes the open air even when it speaks most quietly.
