Mozart - Complete Music for Solo Flute and Orchestra

Mozart - Complete Music for Solo Flute and Orchestra
This album features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s *Flute Concerto in G major, KV. 313*, composed in 1777-1778 during his stay in Mannheim. The concerto was commissioned by the amateur flautist de Jean, who requested three concertos and a few quartets. Mozart completed two concertos and three quartets but received only part of the promised fee, as de Jean found the music too complex and did not fulfill the original agreement. Despite this setback, the concerto stands out as a masterpiece that exceeds the standards of its time, blending elegance with technical brilliance. The album also includes the *Flute Concerto in D major, KV. 314*, an arrangement of an earlier oboe concerto written for the oboist Ferlendi in 1777. The adaptation for flute brings a new lightness and charm to the work, demonstrating the practice of re-orchestration common in Mozart’s era. Additionally, the *Rondo in D major, KV. Anh. 184*, originally composed for violin (KV. 373), is presented in its flute arrangement, likely made by Franz Anton Hoffmeister. This piece adds a delightful, virtuosic element to the program, showcasing the flute’s natural affinity for melodic expression and agility. Performed by Mikael Helasvuo with the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra under Juha Kangas, this recording offers a fresh interpretation of these classical gems, emphasizing Mozart’s innovative approach to the flute repertoire.
