Oiseaux tendres
Catalog Number: BIS689
A poetic meditation on birds as sound, symbol, and sensation, this recital moves from baroque clarity to modern colour, tracing flight, song, and stillness through the flute’s uniquely expressive voice.
Fono Forum: outstanding.
This programme is conceived as a personal act of listening rather than imitation: an exploration of how birds inspire musical thought, atmosphere, and inner reflection. Across six contrasting works, the flute becomes a vehicle for flight, gravity, and concentrated sound, moving between serenity, virtuosity, and quiet intensity. Baroque elegance gives way to modern explorations of timbre, where fragments of birdsong are transformed into gesture, colour, and contour rather than literal mimicry. Contemporary works expand the instrument’s palette through noise-inflected sonorities, spatial effects, and shifting moods, while moments of lyrical repose recall birdsong as comfort, memory, and sign of life. The interpretive thread uniting the programme is an attentive sensitivity to line and breathing space, allowing each piece to suggest its own landscape, from intimate solitude to exuberant dance. Rather than offering a catalogue of avian portraits, the recording invites the listener into a more inward experience, where listening itself becomes the final destination, and music gently leads back to the sounds of the natural world beyond the concert hall.
