Hans-Kristian Kjos Sørensen is one of Norway's most celebrated percussionists, winner of the CIEM competition in Geneva and first prize cum laude at the Versailles conservatoire. This disc showcases his virtuosity across marimba, vibraphone, drums and voice in a programme ranging from Xenakis's physically demanding Rebonds to the spare vocal miniatures of John Cage, Franco Donatoni's intricate Omar for vibraphone, and Rolf Wallin's hypnotic Stonewave. Norwegian composer Åse Hedstrøm's Flow for marimba and three original improvisations by Sørensen himself round out a portrait of a musician equally at home in scored works and spontaneous invention. Recorded at Sofienberg Kirke, Oslo, in November 2000, the disc earned an "outstanding" rating from MusicWeb International.
