Response - percussion solo
Catalog Number: BIS1118
A vivid exploration of percussion as colour and gesture, where ritual energy, poetic stillness and sonic experimentation unfold in a finely shaped arc of tension and release.
Klassik-heute 10/10/10.
This programme traces a richly varied landscape of percussion writing, where sound itself becomes both structure and expression. From the shifting energies of Joan Guinjoan’s Tension-Relax, the music unfolds as a play of opposing forces, moving from rhythmic vitality toward dissolution, guided by colour and resonance as primary agents of form. In Keiko Abe’s evocation of cherry blossoms, a single tonal centre anchors a delicate web of variation, creating a sense of suspended time and refined, almost calligraphic motion. The more introspective works introduce contrasting perspectives: fleeting theatrical gestures and understated lyricism emerge with an air of ambiguity, while Toshimitsu Tanaka’s paired movements balance structural clarity with a darker, more elusive atmosphere. At the centre stands Arne Nordheim’s Response, where live percussion and electronic sound intertwine, expanding the instrument’s expressive field into something at once tactile and abstract. Throughout, the performance shapes these diverse idioms with precision and sensitivity, drawing the listener into a continuous exploration of texture, space and transformation.
