This album presents Alfred Schnittke’s In Memoriam (1978), his orchestral reworking of the Piano Quintet written in memory of his mother, and the Viola Concerto (1985), composed for Yuri Bashmet after a near-fatal heart attack gave the work the character of a farewell.
