Drawn largely from Swedish choral writing of the early 1990s, the programme moves between tonal stillness and restless pulse, often using repetition as an expressive force—sometimes expansive and romantic, sometimes microscopic, creating an altered sense of time. A central pillar is a Pentecost sequence cast as a many-sectioned sacred madrigal: lyrical, rhythmically intricate, and alive with quicksilver gesture. Elsewhere, invented “Latin-like” syllables invite the listener to hear language as pure sound; overtone-inflected textures open the ear to new acoustic spaces; and older devotional drama brings sharp symbolic clarity, where dissonance and cadence carry the weight of suffering and release. Throughout, the singing feels closely allied to the composers’ imagination, turning modern technique into direct, spiritual communication.
