The French King´s Flautists
Catalog Number: BIS745
Recorder player Dan Laurin leads us into the refined world of the French Baroque, with sonatas and suites by Blavet, Leclair, Hotteterre, Dornel and Braun – music shaped by the elegance, dance and etiquette of the court of Louis XIV.
Fono Forum: outstanding.
Under Louis XIV, French musical life was both remarkably sophisticated and tightly controlled, with royal privilege deciding what could be published and performed. The flute and recorder flourished in this world, and The French King's Flautists gathers works by some of the leading players and composers of the time: Michel Blavet, celebrated in Paris and admired by Frederick the Great; Jacques Hotteterre 'le Romain'; Antoine Dornel; Jean Daniel Braun; and Jean-Marie Leclair. Dan Laurin plays the recorder, joined by Mogens Rasmussen on viola da gamba and Leif Meyer on harpsichord, in a programme full of graceful dance movements, expressive sarabandes and lively finales.
