The Russian Saxophone
Catalog Number: BIS765
The Russian saxophone: a survey of works by Soviet and Russian composers — Denisov, Raskatov, Gubaidulina, Karasikov and Vustin — performed by Claude Delangle and collaborators.
Special Offer
Claude Delangle, one of the world's most celebrated saxophonists, presents a wide-ranging survey of music for saxophone by Russian and Soviet composers. Edison Denisov is represented by two works: his influential Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano (1970), written for Jean-Marie Londeix, and the later Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Cello (1994). Sofia Gubaidulina's Duo-Sonata for two baritone saxophones (1977) is one of her most concentrated chamber works. Alexander Raskatov's Pas de deux (1994) for soprano, chimes and saxophone sets a text by Antonin Artaud, recorded in the presence of the composer. Vadim Karasikov's Casus in terminus (1995) adds cello to the ensemble, and Alexander Vustin's Musique pour l'ange (1995) for tenor saxophone, vibraphone and cello completes this imaginative programme.
